About CAS

Getting ready for a public viewing night on Mount Stromlo—and it's not even dark yet!
These free events are run in partnership with the ANU RSAA

The Canberra Astronomical Society Inc. (CAS) was established in 1969 to serve the needs of amateur astronomers within the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding regions. The Society has among its membership a wide variety of skills and interests, catering for the beginner and advanced astronomer alike. You do not need a telescope to join!

CAS is committed to promoting co-operation between amateur and professional astronomers and has active public outreach and education programs.

CAS has forged strong links with the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics (RSAA) at Mount Stromlo, with members on the staff.

The Society publishes a monthly newsletter (The Southern Cross) and an annual Ephemeris for the ACT region, which are distributed free of charge to members. Selected articles are available on this web site.

See Membership Details for more information on what membership of CAS can offer you.

We hope we can stimulate your interest in astronomy further.
